US RRT Helps at June 6 Vision Walk in Cleveland OH
The Cleveland RRT Team was privileged to be involved in ‘the walk of a lifetime’ for many of the members who participated in the “Vision Walk” on June 6, 2015. The event was held at a beautiful part of the Lake Erie shoreline, not far from downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
The VisionWalk Fundraising Event is to benefit the Fighting Blindness Foundation, with the focus on raising awareness for research on retinal degenerative diseases. These diseases have affected over 10 million Americans and millions of others around the world. Since being founded in Spring 2006, the VisionWalk has raised over $37 million to fight Blindness Research. RRT got to work as teams of friends and families bonded together at the event all committed to changing the future.
The event was filled with fun competitions and activities for both old and young. After checking in at the registration area, there were a few announcements and by 10:30am the walk across Edgewater Beach began. Those who attended the VisionWalk event that day have great memories of the various Cleveland sports-team mascots, face painting, hula-hoop contest, and the walk itself; all of which made the day truly spectacular.
The RRT assisted in all areas throughout the day, from helping children in and out of the bouncy castle, pushing wheel chairs, to the final clean-up of the site.
The day before the event several volunteer groups had cancelled which put pressure on the remaining volunteers. As stated by event coordinator Rachel “It was a real blessing when I received your phone call Friday evening” and adding later “I don’t know what we would have done without RRT”.
After the event had ended, the RRT volunteers stayed around and helped clean up the various attractions and tents. Overall the day was a huge success, bringing together the community to raise much needed funds for the Fighting Blindness Foundation. The Cleveland RRT Team looks forward to helping out next year!
