US – RRT at Make A Wish 3 Fast Walk / Run, Fargo
On May 7, 2016 the RRT volunteers from Pembina, ND travelled to Fargo, ND to volunteer at the Make-A-Wish 3 Fast Walk/Run. The Make-A-Wish foundation grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. The Wish 3 Fast was a ‘Superhero’ 10K, 5K, & 3K walk/run in which all participants were encouraged to dress up in superhero costumes!! Some people even brought their dogs along dressed up in costumes.
RRT arrived in Fargo at 7:30 at Lindenwood Park, to set up the RRT tent and help the organizers set up the start/finish line. With that completed, the volunteers helped with traffic control and parking. It was a beautiful spring day to spend outside, helping to support a great cause.
Before the start of the 3K walk/run, the Make-A-Wish recipient benefitting from the event was announced. This was very touching to see the person that was directly receiving from the cause that RRT was assisting. The little boy has had a love for Superhero’s since he was 2 and his wish was to be a ‘Superhero’ for a day. Every birthday everyone dresses up as Superhero’s for his birthday party. His parents were very thankful for everything that was being done for their child. They thanked us all several times for being there helping out.
Around 8:30 the walkers/runners for the 10K started to assemble at the start line. The RRT volunteers made sure the participants all had Silly String to attack the “villains” along the route!! This was a hit with the kids as well as the adults. The RRT also passed out water to the participants as they came back in from their races.
By 11:00 everyone was back from their routes. The RRT volunteers helped clean up the start/finish line and around the park. This was another great event that we were thankful to be a part of.
A testimonial received was, “The team of Rapid Relief are an extraordinary group. They reached out to me surprising myself and the rest of the Team Wish Fast with a top notch assistance of our event. Great staff, excellent equipment, we are very grateful for all their help.”
