US – Cleveland RRT At Step Out | Walk To Stop Diabetes
On October 3, 2015, a group of RRT volunteers from Cleveland, OH assisted at the 2015 Step Out | Walk to Stop Diabetes. Step Out Events raise money for the American Diabetes Association, who fund research to prevent and cure diabetes.
Although it was early October, Old Mr. Winter called in unannounced and brought with him his characteristic luggage – wind, rain and bone-chilling cold – which he dispersed indiscriminately throughout the day. Despite his unwelcome presence there was a substantial turnout of 750 walkers, proving their unwavering support of the cause.
The walk started and finished at the fairgrounds in Berea, OH where it wound its way to Coe Lake alongside the picturesque Cleveland Metro Parks. It then took the walkers through the small city center of Berea where there was the option for either the 2.5 mile or the 4 mile route.
RRT manned the two rest stations along the routes. One was near the middle of the 2.5 mile route and the other midway through the 4 mile route. At both stations the walkers found smiles and well-wishes as abundant and refreshing as the hot drinks and snacks. The RRT tents offered an appreciated covert from the elements.
This event alone raised $140,000 to support the 29 million adults and children currently living with Diabetes in the United States. Many of the walkers expressed their thanks to the Rapid Relief Team for their encouragement and refreshments to keep them going.
