AU – TFS Tanker Launch
As the devastating bushfires of 2013 ripped through Southern Tasmania, RRT was on the front line providing catering support and our volunteers experienced first-hand the bravery and commitment of our firefighters. We also witnessed how stretched they were and we wanted to personally do something to ensure they were better equipped to protect Tasmanians next time they faced a similar emergency.
The ability of the Tasmanian Fire Service to protect the Tasmanian people and property from fires has been significantly strengthened ahead of a potentially catastrophic fire season thanks to a $166,000.00 donation from RRT.
On Monday 19th October 2015, the TFS unveiled a fleet of 14 new tankers utilizing revolutionary CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) technology, with the donation from RRT funding the fitting of this system on 6 of the new tankers. Compressed Air Foam dramatically increases the effectiveness of plain water, as it is much wetter and insulates fuel for twice as long. By using A Class Compressed Air Foam, the effectiveness increases up to 7 times more effective than water (source Fireground Winter 2014, P10).
The donation was formally recognized at the launch of the new tankers by the TFS and Rene Hidding – Minister for Police & Emergency Management. Following the official launch, RRT cooked and provided a BBQ lunch for all involved, serving over 100 meals.
RRT is glad to be able to support our frontline heroes, and look forward to working again with the TFS throughout this summer.
