Sterling West – Omaha, Council Bluffs

On Monday March 23rd, 2015, 14 elementary students from grades 3-6 from Omaha and Council Bluffs visited 2 nearby Care Homes to play their recorders and sing to the residents. The songs were all food/candy orientated and the students made their own candy “costumes” in Art Class. A booklet with the songs was handed out to everyone before the students started to sing.

The children all enjoyed this positive experience and the chance to interact with the elderly. Watch the video to see some great extracts of the songs performed at both locations.

The first Care Home was in Elkhorn, Nebraska where a community member is currently in therapy. The audience enjoyed the singing so much that they asked for another song – one that they could all join in with. The kids all sang “Amazing Grace” which they hadn’t practiced but managed to pull it off!! The students then handed treat bags to everyone in the audience. Before leaving to head back to school, the students received free popcorn and/or ice cream from the Care Home as a gesture of thanks.

In the afternoon, the students headed to another Care Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They performed again and brought smiles to the faces of the elderly. The residents of this nursing home also received their treat bags with gratitude!

    Hello
Please can you tell me who I can contact to find out how you managed such a great show?
We would like to do something like you have done, and wondered if you could help us by telling us how you organised the event.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
