Shift after shift, strike team after strike team they came in to our RRT base for good food and a clean place to sit – weary, hungry but always cheery, thankful and polite.   So here’s to you, you awesome Fire Fighters, Emergency Teams, Police, DSE, Paramedics and everyone who helped  – the RRT have fed you, sheltered you, cheered you and now we THANK YOU!

As bushfires in the area burnt out of control by mid Friday afternoon, the RRT, with permission from Victorian Government Incident Control Centre (ICC), within two hours had set up base in the Stawell Football clubroom. The smiley Team at RRT, provided the needed refreshments and support for the weary and worn members of the CFA and emergency personnel posted to the Grampians & Black Range bushfires in January 2014.  With staggered shifts rolling on, the RRT community members from Stawell, Ballarat, Hamilton and Warrnambool worked around the clock to provide the needed refreshments, wether warm, cold or icy, to help these fire fighters achieve their mission.

Serving hungry emergency crews

The numbers the RRT have fed have been huge, with an average of 400 from the Emergency Services coming in for Breakfast, then again for Lunch & Tea. There have been 100’s of freshly made meals delivered by RRT personnel to hot spots for those that can’t leave the front line.

Food has been consumed at a phenomenal rate!! We have gone through 100 Chickens, 260kg of lamb & beef, 30kg ham, box loads of bacon and over 1000 eggs! Not to mention the multitudes of salad… cookies… chips… muesli bars & cakes!Current situation with the fire is; the firefighters have stopped the spread 7km south of Stawell, fire activity has subsided but not yet under control – further works are being carried out to further protect Stawell and surrounding communities.

What would we do without …. Aerogard!

Lots of fantastic feedback is coming in to us, including our friend Dave @ CFA Geelong; “without you guys doing the great job you are doing, we would not be able to do what we do!” – Together we are a team; supporting each other to achieve our mission “supporting local communities in time of need”.

Having just come back from Stawell I’d like to add that it was a blessing to have fellow “Brothers and Sisters in Christ” supporting us firefighters. We are oly as good as the support we receive! The gospel mentions that we are to serve – and the service from every member was outstanding, so polite, so helpful and nothing was a bother. What was the icing on the cake was that when we were exhausted, we didn’t have to get up to serve ourselves tea / coffee / biscuits – they were all brought to us. God Bless you all.

We really enjoyed serving you awesome fire-fighters etc. You’re a great bunch and we apprecate what you have done for our Stawell community and district. We love the Grampians and Halls Gap – thanks for saving them! Anyone looking for a holiday, come and visit Halls Gap, they’re going to need all the tourism they can get to survive this! As global RRT members, we’ll be here for you in every emergency situation to help in any way we can.

  6. MWG - RRT Team Leader says:

THANK YOU !!. A team is only as good as its members, and I would like to thank all the RRT Volunteers who worked together so well and so unselfishly around the clock to achieve our goal. The feedback we have had from Emergency Services, other volunteers, the Premier and members of the public has been overwhelming. Thank you again to all RRT members who assisted in the Stawell area fires – we couldn’t have done without you.
