AU – Sydney Soccer Tournament for Starlight Foundation
What better way to finish the week than to cook up a meal for the hungry competitors at Starlight Foundation’s Soccer Tournament? Held at the iconic Wentworth Park in Sydney, that’s just what the 10 RRT volunteers did on Friday the 9th October 2015, out in the beautiful sunshine.
Following the round robin tournament with 10 teams competing against each other, the RRT cooked up a choice of beef burgers and chicken burgers for lunch, with a variety of cakes, fruit, and refreshments. Not only did the RRT volunteers receive very positive feedback from the competitors, but all who were there, were unanimous in saying how much they enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Starlight Foundation in the true team spirit of this event. Our only regret was not getting the chance to field our own soccer team!!
And even better still, the Starlight Foundation raised a very significant amount of much-needed funds to support them in their work to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
Their programs, which use positive psychology principles to assist in the ‘total care’ of sick kids, happen both in and out of hospitals, are designed to bring fun to sick kids. The funds raised go towards granting wishes for seriously ill children, supporting a thriving and safe online community for these children, raising awareness and educating remote communities, and creating rooms in hospitals which are a haven from the medical procedures and instruments which are a part of daily life for a seriously ill child.
In a remarkable coincidence, one of the RRT volunteers for this event was himself a recipient of support from Starlight Foundation many years ago as a teenager – so it’s great to be able to give back and help a community organization that’s been helping needy children for so many years. Let’s keep this partnership going.
