NZ – RRT Hawera Supports Child Mobility Walk for Kids
On Saturday the 8th October RRT Hawera supported the Lions Clubs NZ Child Mobility Foundation with their annual appeal fundraiser ’10-10-10 Walk For Kids’.
The Lions Clubs New Zealand Child Mobility Foundation supports children who suffer from Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida or similar disabilities. These conditions cause limited mobility, and everyday life is a challenge. To make life easier for these children, CMF offers them support by coordinating the supply and maintenance of devices, e.g. the Hart Walker, helping children to be active and take part in “normal” life.
Child Mobility Foundation relies solely on the support of Lions Clubs and voluntary donations to fund the work that they do.
RRT was approached by Lions Club to assist them with this year’s event, a 10km walk around Hicks Park and King Edward Park, Hawera. It was a privilege to once again provide all the catering refreshments for this event, serving up chicken burgers, sausages and onion in bread, fruit kebabs along with hot drinks and bottles of water to a steady stream of participants and volunteers.
It was great to see the many enthusiastic participants, including some disabled children and their caregivers, enjoying the beautiful scenic gardens, despite braving the persistent cold wind. The hot drinks and food was a welcome warm comfort! The happy faces of these children enjoying the day out was a cheer to see.
The 8 RRT volunteers were honored to be part of this event. By providing and serving the food for this worthy cause, it was good to know that our small contribution and donation will help make a positive difference in these children’s and their caregiver’s life. We look forward to helping out Lions Club with this event again in the future.
