NZ – RRT assists Napier Soup Kitchen

Each Monday night, a Napier woman, Kiri Swannell cooks a 60-litre pot of soup. At 6pm, she and her husband Kevin go to the city’s Clive Square and serve the soup from the back of their utility truck to the needy, including the city’s homeless people. The soup truck has become a regular and popular fixture in Napier. They have done this for three years.

The Hastings & Napier RRT have been lending a hand to Kevin & Kiri by helping at the soup kitchen every Monday night, providing hot sausage rolls, apple crumble puddings, water bottles & blankets. Kevin and Kiri were all smiles as they handed out cups of pumpkin and bacon soup with bread to a line of people who were waiting patiently in the cold.

Currently Kevin and Kiri have an appeal running to raise money for a homeless shelter, this is supported by local MP Stuart Nash & the local Newspaper, HB Today.

Kiri commended the efforts of the Hastings and Napier Rapid Relief Teams for donating the food and drink and for their support. The people we served were very grateful and appreciative of our efforts.
