Different Not Less!
April the 2nd is ‘World Autism Awareness Day.’ Every year on this date the Regional Australia Autism Support Network Inc (RAASN) hold their ‘Different not Less’ Awareness Campaign.
This event increases awareness, understanding and acceptance of individuals with Autism and also raises much needed funds to support local families living with Autism.
The event is held in QE2 Square, Albury, New South Wales, and runs from 10am to 2pm. This year the Rapid Relief Team was onsite to offer free food and refreshments.
From 10am until 2pm the RRT served a delicious lunch of sausages in bread and burgers, as well as bottled water, tea and coffee and Easter eggs. This included serving the general public who attended the event, RAASN volunteers running the day, stall holders who were providing information about products and services for families living with Autism. The Canberra Raiders rugby team who also came along to show their support.
By offering a free lunch at the event the RAASN to attract more members of the general public and help in raising awareness of autism. It was a great opportunity for the RRT to assist the RAASN in the great work they do.
By the end of the event over 300 free meals had been served, and the RAASN had a very successful day enlightening the community about Autism.
The RRT also considered it a successful day after the positive feedback from RAASN volunteers, praising “scrummy hamburgers, the fact it was free to the public which helped RAASN and brought people in to help raise awareness”.
