CA – Galt RRT Serve Meal To Homeless At The Urban Hope Center

The Urban Hope Center is located in the basement of the Cambridge Vineyard Church. It is here that volunteers ran a much needed service for the homeless and those in need. Every Sunday and Tuesday a warm meal, laundry facilities, clothing, haircuts, showers and more is offered free of charge. The Urban Hope Center is the founders and volunteers’ expression of God’s love for all people. This centre is strongly supporting Cambridge’s homeless and needy to find a brighter future.

The RRT team in Galt were eager to host one of these events at the Urban Hope Centre. As the sun beamed down on Saturday June 4th, 2016, sixteen members of the Galt Rapid Relief Team (RRT) welcomed at least 50 homeless and needy to the centre. The guests were met at the door with smiles, muffins, fruit, tea and coffee. A trailer load of donated clothing arrived and was swiftly unloaded by members of the team. As lunchtime approached and tasty scents floated from the kitchen, and the dining hall quickly filled.

The guests were served a delicious meal of homemade tomato soup, pork chops, rice, caesar salad and bread rolls; all of which seconds, thirds and fourths were taken! The meal was followed by steaming hot apple crisp of which the supply hardly met the demand!

Many approached the RRT Volunteers to heartily thank them for their care, or ask that the RRT host another event. One of the managers of the centre was heard to say “you guys are awesome, bless you all!” to which there was clapping and cheering from the guests. The day was a great success, and thoroughly enjoyed by the guests, RRT team members and other volunteers alike.
