AU – RRT TAS supports the St Giles “Walk with Me” Feb 2018

St Giles celebrated their 80th birthday in true style, hosting yet another enormously successful “Walk with Me” event early in February.

St Giles is a dynamic, multi-faceted organization that supports people with a range of needs, including persons with developmental delays and disabilities. And so while it is only a short walk for some, “Walk with Me” is a real challenge for others.

It is a great opportunity to support and celebrate the diversity within our community, with the main focus being to raise awareness and celebrate the inclusion of people with disabilities, as well as raising much needed funds for the charity partners.

RRT was once again delighted to support this event, continuing our successful relationship with St Giles. 17 RRT volunteers prepared, cooked and served almost 300 meals including gourmet hamburgers, sausages, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and almost 400 bottles of water!

RRT participated in the walk, helping those less able along the way and manned a water station at the half way point.  RRT also helped in the set up and running of activities throughout the afternoon, with the main attraction being a giant game of “Pass the Parcel.”

Overall the day was a wonderful success with excellent levels of participation and many organizations and individuals supporting the event in a proactive way. ABC Newsreader Peter Gee was MC for the event, and we heard an inspiring speech from Australian 1500m World Champion Para Athlete, Deon Kenzie.

The Australian Navy Band lead the procession from Parliament House lawns to a number of well-known tunes. RRT would like to thank St Giles for including us, and we look forward to working with you again soon!
