AU – RRT Supports Wintringham Christmas Lunch – 15th December 2015

There were smiles and laughter all round at the McIntosh Centre at Shepparton Showgrounds when the Rapid Relief Team came together and provided a delicious Christmas lunch for 65 residents and staff of the Goulburn Valley Wintringham Specialist Care Home.

The company honours the name of Tiny Wintringham, a homeless man who resided at the original Gordon House in Little Bourke Street.

When it appeared that Gordon House was to be closed, Tiny gathered support which resulted in Gordon House being rebuilt on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne. This new building has now since closed, but Tiny’s successful fight against what appeared to be insurmountable obstacles, continues to inspire the company that has been named in his honour.

The Shepparton branch of the RRT had so much fun serving Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The atmosphere was fun and happy, the residents enjoying a day out at a time of year when many may have felt alone. Turkey, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables were followed with traditional Christmas pudding served with ice cream and brandy custard.

However, the real party began after lunch, when many residents couldn’t resist dancing along to the tunes of the RRT band, who played a mixture of Christmas Carols, Golden Oldies and Pop songs. Age was no barrier for some who shook it on the floor until it was time to leave!

“We all agree that what RRT has done today has been fantastic” said Graham Watson, Facility Manager of Wintringham, during a speech at the end of the occasion.

“The meal was really lovely, all the workers running around the tables were great, the band was fantastic! We’d like to say thank you very much to the team for what you’ve done today and we look forward to working with you in the future”

The young team of the RRT Shepparton branch thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with the residents of Wintringham and look forward to next year.
