AU – RRT Penrith supported the Red Cross Blood Drive to raise funds for Careflight

Luke Warburton, a Senior Constable with the NSW Police Dog Squad, was shot in the femoral artery when saving a doctor in the emergency department at Nepean Hospital on the 12th of January.

Losing 6.5 litres of blood, Luke would not have survived without the Red Cross Blood Bank’s supply of blood.

With 14 operations behind him & well on the way to recovery, Luke and the NSW Fire & Rescue teamed up to run a Red Cross Blood Drive day on June 18 to encourage the community to give blood, in recognition of their life saving service.

The day was a great success with the Red Cross donation unit taking in 62 donors, more than the maximum 60 they usually do in a day. The day was such a success, that it is likely to be repeated each year.

NSW Police Dog Squad & Riot Squad, Police Rescue and Careflight also attended the day with a full display of their equipment and capabilities.

Many thanks to the NSW Fire & Rescue for hosting the day and inviting RRT to run a fund-raiser BBQ. RRT cooked hamburgers & hot dogs with all proceeds being donated to Careflight.
