AU – RRT Brisbane and the Wesley Mission Winter Olympics July 2016

Wesley Mission have nine youth hubs on the Gold Coast. These hubs provide a haven for children that may come from families that are struggling, and allows them access to counsellors, carers and after school support.

Tina Adams does a wonderful job in managing these hubs and it’s great to see the help and care offered to the youth of today’s society and the results from this cannot be denied.

There are nine youth hubs of which there are four that compete in their own Olympic Games.

The Olympics were held at the Nerang Velodrome. The Games are a great opportunity for these children to participate as a team and show off their athletic skills, also bringing to light leadership, design, musical and overall ingenuity skills in the preparation.

The teams design their team uniforms, banners, war cries and dances. There were good old favourites such as egg and spoon races, sack races, and relays around the velodrome.

The noise was incredible coming from the teams encouraging their team mates to go faster.

Half way through the day RRT provided delicious hamburgers for the competitors and carers with cake and citrus tarts for dessert. Cans of soft-drinks were a hit with the children and many bottles of cold water were used to quench their thirst.

RRT was glad to help out with providing lunch to all these happy children, and they were extremely well mannered and courteous.
