AU – RRT Berwick Supports VSK Piggy Bank Appeal
Pigs may not fly, but they can sometimes float!
There are a unique variety of them that have made their way around the state of Victoria during the past weeks, touring from town to town, bringing delight to hundreds of children, whilst raising funds to bring a different kind of delight to the special children that need it the most.
The Very Special Kids foundation is a non for profit organisation that provides 24 hour care to terminally ill children, at their well equipped hospice located in Hawthorn Victoria. The parents and families of these children rely heavily on this care and respite, as well as the other services that are available.
Every year these giant pink pigs, VSK’s mascots, are chauffeured around on what is called The Piggy Bank Appeal. Their aim is to raise the needed funds to keep this 24hr hospice operating, and provide an ‘as normal as possible’ life for these children and their families.
One of these mascots, Pepi, paid a visit to Berwick’s Eden Rise shopping complex on Thursday 29th September 2016. Fashioned in sunglasses, a hat and bandanna, he was quite the attraction!
Although the weather was out of sorts, a small group of enthusiastic Rapid Relief Team volunteers were cooking up a storm of sausages in bread topped with onion, along side the VSK stall out the front of Commonwealth Bank.
The aroma of the BBQ was to hard to resist, luring many store keepers out to grab a bite or two, and kids on school holidays who were eager to get a close look at Pepi the pig. Locals were glad to be able to grab a hot lunch and support a worthy cause, all for a very good price!
Many thanks to the ladies from Commonwealth Bank for their donation of sausages, and Brumby’s Bakery for the loaves of bread.
Members from VSK team expressed extreme appreciation, of the support shown. A great total of $414.30 raised, over 160 sausages in bread and 30 cold beverages were served. 100% of the proceeds were donated to VSK and members from Berwick’s RRT were glad to be granted the opportunity to be able to support another successful VSK fund raising event.
